Flowers: corolla yellow-lanate internally abaxially; pollen sac sides glabrous.


Phenology: Flowering Jun–Sep.
Habitat: Pinyon-juniper, Gambel oak, Douglas fir, and ponderosa pine woodlands.
Elevation: 1200–3000(–3400) m.

Distribution

Ariz., Calif., N.Mex., Tex., Utah, Mexico (Durango, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas).

Discussion

Populations of var. barbatus occur predominantly southwest of the Mogollon Rim; outlying populations in the flora area are known from southern California, trans-Pecos Texas, and south-central Utah.
