Spergularia macrotheca var. macrotheca

Plants 5–35 cm. Stems erect to prostrate. Leaves: stipules 5–11 mm; blade (0.6–)1–4 cm. Flowers: sepal lobes ovate to lanceolate, (4.5–)5–7 mm, to 8 mm in fruit; petals pink to rosy, 0.9–1.1 times as long as sepals; styles 0.6–1.2 mm. Capsules 0.8–1.2 times as long as calyx. Seeds red-brown, often with submarginal groove or depression, suborbiculate to ovate, (0.6–)0.7–0.8 mm, smooth (40×); wing absent or 0.1–0.2 mm wide. 2n = 36, 72.


Phenology: Flowering spring–fall.
Habitat: Salt flats and marshes, dunes, rocky outcrops, sandy or rocky coastal bluffs, gravelly ridges, alkaline fields
Elevation: less than 300 m
