Leaves mostly reclining to prostrate; blades oblanceolate to spatulate, 4–10(–13) cm × (10–)15–30 mm, margins mostly toothed to lobed, lobes oblanceolate to spatulate, faces often densely villous. Phyllaries ovate to obovate, margins mostly densely tomentose, densely villous to tomentose (hairs translucent, mostly yellow), ± stipitate-glandular. Corollas surpassing phyllaries at flowering, 8–16 mm; anthers 3.5–4.5 mm. Cypselae ± dimorphic, whitish or purplish, ribs ridged to subalate, straight, often diminishing proximally, glabrous or scabrous. 2n = 36.


Phenology: Flowering April–May (year-round).
Habitat: Coastal dunes and beach heads
Elevation: 0–50 m

Discussion

Variety eastwoodiae occurs from Point Reyes north to about Point Arena.
