Plants 15–120 cm. Stems (1–8) unbranched or branched near bases. Leaves crowded near stem bases; petiolate; blades oblanceolate, sometimes pinnatifid basally (terminal lobes longer than pinnatifid portions), membranous, ultimate margins usually crenate, faces velvety. Heads usually borne singly, sometimes 2–3 together. Peduncles hairy (hairs reddish, wartlike, enmeshed in whitish, matted hairs). Involucres 15–30 cm diam. Ray corollas yellow, abaxial veins green, laminae 10–13 × 3–5 mm. Disc corollas yellow. Cypselae (obovate) 5–6 × 3.5–4 mm. 2n = 30.

Habitat: Calcareous outcrops and derived soils
Elevation: 600–2100 m

Discussion

Berlandiera ×macrophylla is a hybrid of B. lyrata and B. monocephala, with which it occurs.
