Proximal scales 0.9–2 × 0.4–0.5 mm. Flowers: perianth bristles 5–6, whitish to pale or rarely red-brown, 0.2–0.4 mm, shorter than achene, spinules not evident at 45X. Achenes 0.3–0.45 mm wide. Tubercles semicircular in outline or shortly pyramidal, 0.5–0.1 × 0.15–0.2 mm.


Phenology: Fruiting spring–fall.
Habitat: Freshwater to moist terrestrial sites, wet flatwoods, pine barrens, margins of ponds, ditches, on peaty and sandy soils
Elevation: 0–600 m
