Plants medium-sized, in erect cushions, acrocarpous. Stems erect, branched. Leaves erect, spreading when moist, lanceolate; margins narrowly recurved, entire; laminal cells oblong or quadrate to short-rectangular, smooth. Sexual condition dioicous. Seta black, slender-elongate. Capsule inclined to horizontal, black, glossy, ovoid, strongly asymmetric and curved, small, smooth, mouth pointed downward; stomata absent; peristome diplolepidous; exostome teeth 16, irregular, short, fragile; endostome basal membrane low, segments reduced. Calyptra cucullate, smooth.
