Arizona, Mexico, West Indies, Central America, n South America, introduced in tropical Asia, Pacific Islands.
Discussion
Varieties 3 (1 in the flora).
Variety longifolia (Micheli ex Donnell Smith) Rudd occurs from Mexico to northern South America, and var. mexicana (Hemsley & Rose) Rudd occurs in a limited area of west-central Mexico.
