Herbage ± pubescent, grayish. Stems trailing or twining-climbing. Leaf blades narrowly triangular, basal lobes 2-pointed or rounded, basal sinus rounded to quadrate. Bracts lanceolate, 10–16(–21) × 6–10 mm, proximally flat or ± keeled, apex acute. Flowers: sepals 9–12 mm; corolla white or cream, 24–34 mm; stamens 15–18 mm.
Phenology: Flowering Apr–Jul.
Habitat: Chaparral, coastal scrub, dry sites.
Elevation: 0–1200 m.

Discussion
Subspecies arida intergrades with Calystegia macrostegia subspp. intermedia and tenuifolia and with C. occidentalis subsp. fulcrata.
