Plants annual, erect or decumbent. Leaves usually with Kranz-type anatomy (without in A. tatarica). Pistillate flowers lacking perianth, enclosed by pair of bracteoles. Bracteoles rhombic to ovate, united to about middle, proximal part hardened and cartilaginous in fruit. Seeds vertical; radicle inferior, basal, or median.

Distribution

Introduced; Eurasia.
