Annuals or perennials; eglandular. Trichomes absent [simple]. Cauline leaves petiolate or sessile; blade base not auriculate [auriculate], margins entire or repand [dentate, pinnately or palmately lobed]. Racemes ebracteate or bracteate, elongated [not elongated] in fruit. Flowers actinomorphic; sepals erect [ascending to spreading], lateral pair not saccate basally; petals usually white, rarely pink, claw present, obscure [distinct]; filaments unappendaged, not winged; pollen 3-colpate. Fruits siliques or silicles, dehiscent, unsegmented, terete, 4-angled, latiseptate, or angustiseptate; ovules 2–96[–numerous] per ovary; style obsolete or distinct; stigma usually entire [rarely 2-lobed]. Seeds usually uniseriate, rarely biseriate; cotyledons usually incumbent, rarely accumbent.

North America, Europe, Asia.

Discussion
