Shrubs, ± compact, intricately branched, 0.5–1.5 m. Leaf blades strongly cupped, oblong to elliptic, 5–11(–14) × 2.5–8(–12) mm, margins strongly revolute, teeth not evident adaxially; veins deeply furrowed. 2n = 24.


Phenology: Flowering Feb–Apr.
Habitat: Open sites, chaparral, pine forests.
Elevation: 50–300 m.

Discussion

Variety impressus is restricted to coastal sites in southwestern San Luis Obispo and western Santa Barbara counties.
