Culms and leaves with Kranz (chlorocyperoid) anatomy. Inflorescences: spikes; rachilla persistent, wingless. Spikelets borne in spikes; floral scales deciduous, rounded. Flowers: stamens 2–3, usually 3 in C. laevigatus; pistils 2; stigmas 2(–3 in C. serotinus). Achenes biconvex, dorsiventrally flattened, face borne toward rachilla.

Distribution

Pantropical and warm-temperate regions.

Discussion

Species 6 (2 in the flora).
