Discussion

Elymus glaucus subsp. glaucus grows throughout the range of the species, from sea level to 2500 m. It is absent from the area where E. glaucus subsp. mackenziei grows. It resembles E. hirsutus (see next), differing in its erect spikes and in the pattern of its lemma pubescence. It also resembles the introduced E. dahuricus (p. 310), from which it differs in its palea shape.
