--><p><i>Stenogonum</i> is clearly allied to <i>Eriogonum </i>subg.<i> Ganysma</i>, specifically <i>E. trichopes</i> and its close relatives. The genus is readily distinguished from <i>Eriogonum</i> by an involucre reduced to a series of two foliaceous whorls of three lanceolate bracts.</p>
