|discussion=<p><i>Hosta ventricosa</i>, a natural tetraploid, undergoes pseudogamous apomixis and therefore breeds true, but is of no use as a seed parent in hybridizing. It can, however, act as a pollen parent. Like <i>H. plantaginea</i>, this species was an early introduction from China.</p>
