Trees or shrubs, erect. Spines usually paired. Leaves: petiole/rachis 1–8 cm; leaflets 16–48, 5–8 mm apart, blades 15–25 × 1.5–6 mm, apex mucronate. Inflorescences 3–12 cm. 2n = 28, 56.


Phenology: Flowering Mar–Jun.
Habitat: Grasslands, alkali flats, washes, sandy alluvial flats.
Elevation: 0–2500 m.

Discussion

Variety torreyana reportedly hybridizes with Prosopis velutina in Arizona, Baja California, and Sonora. R. A. Palacios (2006) considered var. torreyana to be synonymous with P. odorata (= P. pubescens).
