Lianas to 5 m, herbage pubes­cent. Stems sulcate to striate, hairs appressed. Leaves: stipules lanceolate, 2.5–3 × 0.7–1 mm, apex acute; petiole 3–15 cm; rachis 1.5–4.5 cm; stipels awl-shaped, 1.5–2 × 0.2–0.3 mm; petiolules 2–7 mm, densely pubescent; leaflet blades ovate to ovate-orbiculate, 50–130 × 40–120 mm, membranous, base truncate, rounded, or cuneate, surfaces sparsely pubes­cent abaxially, pubescent adaxially, with denser pubescence along veins. Peduncles 3.5–15 cm, pubescent. Inflorescences: bracts lanceolate, 1.8–2 × 0.5–1 mm, apex acute; bracteoles ovate, 0.8–1 × 0.5 mm, apex acute. Pedicels 1–2 mm, densely pubescent. Flowers: calyx puberulent, tube 3–3.5 mm, abaxial lobe 3–3.5 × 1.3–1.5 mm, acuminate, lateral lobes deltate, 2–2.5 × 1.8–2.1 mm, adaxial lobe 2.8–3.2 × 2.9–3.3 mm, obtuse, apiculate, or 2-fid; corolla banner magenta with lighter striations, wings pink, keel whitish. Legumes 3–7 × 1–1.8 cm, base acuminate to acute, apex beaked, bent abaxially, acuminate. Seeds: hilum 2.5–3 mm.


Phenology: Flowering late spring–summer.
Habitat: Woods along rivers and creeks, alluvial soils.
Elevation: 20–500 m.

Discussion

No correctly identified Florida specimens of Lackeya multiflora were located. The name Dioclea boykinii A. Gray ex S. Watson, which pertains here, is super­fluous and illegitimate.
