Peduncles (1.5–)2–15 cm. Principal interfloral bracts equaling or shorter than subtended calyces, 2–5 mm. 2n = 14.
Phenology: Flowering spring–early summer(–fall).
Habitat: Grasslands, calcareous soils.
Elevation: 10–500 m.

Ark., La., Okla., Tex.
Discussion
In Texas, var. pubescens is known from the eastern coastal part of the state.
