Flowers 2.5–4 mm; calyx 1.2–2 mm, lobes 0.2–1 mm; keel longer than other petals; ovules ca. 5. Legumes distinctly constricted between seeds, 10–15 mm. 2n = 14.


Phenology: Flowering late winter–early spring.
Habitat: Deserts, desert mountains, washes, riparian forests, rocky hillsides, outcrops, canyons, desert scrub, sandy, clayey, gravelly or rocky, granitic or basaltic soils, roadsides.
Elevation: (-10–)0–1900 m.

Discussion

Variety brevivexillus is known from the Mojave and Sonoran deserts.
