Plants 4.5–8.5 dm, from bulbs; bulbs not clumped, tunicate, narrowly ovoid. Leaves: proximal blades 25–45 cm × 10–20 mm. Inflorescences racemose, occasionally paniculate, 10–30-flowered, with 1–3 branches. Flowers nodding; perianth perigynous, campanulate, 8–20 mm diam.; tepals greenish, often tinged with purple, ovate to elliptic, 12–16 × 7–9 mm, somewhat narrowed at base; gland 1, obcordate, thick; pedicel recurved at anthesis, erect in fruit, bracts often tinged with purple or red, longer than pedicel, apex acute. Capsules 12–15 mm. 2n = 32.


Phenology: Flowering Aug–Sep.
Habitat: Mixed coniferous and spruce-fir forests of Mogollon Mountains
Elevation: 2500–3200 m

Discussion

Zigadenus mogollonensis seems morphologically most similar to 13. Z. virescens and Z. volcanicus Bentham, a species from Guatemala.
