Stems often wiry, usually prostrate. Peduncles (3–)8–25 mm. Legumes well exserted. 2n = 14.
Phenology: Flowering spring.
Habitat: Coastal sands, ridges, slopes, talus, gravelly soils, chaparral, pine forests, disturbed areas, common after fire.
Elevation: 0–500 m.

Discussion
Variety biolettii occurs from the North Coast and Outer North Coast Ranges to the Central Coast and Outer South Coast Ranges.
