Plants strigulose. Stems 20–40 cm. Leaflets: adaxial blade surface pubescent. Flowers 13.6–15(–16.8) mm; calyx 6.1–8.5(–9.3) mm, tube 5.4–7.6(–8.6) mm, deeply campanulate or cylindric, lobes 0.4–1 mm. Legumes lunately incurved or hamate, 14–22 × 3.4–4.5 mm, glabrous; stipe 6–12(–15) mm. Seeds 15–21.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jul.
Habitat: Plains and hillsides on rough basaltic gravel or pumice sand.
Elevation: 800–1200 m.

Discussion

Variety brachycodon is known from the upper Deschutes River drainage in Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson counties.

In some plants of var. brachycodon, the calyx is usually obscurely saccate, sometimes merely truncate; the pedicel then is attached at a right angle to the lower corner.
