Herbs perennial, subacaulescent or shortly caulescent, sometimes caulescent (in A. reventiformis); caudex superficial, branched. Hairs basifixed. Stems several to many, usually shorter than longest peduncles. Stipules connate or distinct at distal nodes. Leaves odd-pinnate, petiolate, rarely subsessile distally; leaflets (9–)13–37, terminal leaflet sometimes confluent. Racemes loosely flowered, flowers ascending, spreading, or nodding. Calyx tubes cylindric or campanulate. Corollas whitish, cream, or purple, banner recurved through 30–90°, keel apex obtuse. Legumes persistent, sessile or stipitate, erect, oblong-ellipsoid or ovoid-acuminate, ± obcompressed, unilocular or sub-bilocular. Seeds 15–35.
