Stems 20–45(–53) cm. Leaves 5–11(–15) cm. Peduncles 9–18 cm. Racemes (3–)9–16-flowered; axis (2–)5–15 cm in fruit. Corollas purple, petals strongly graduated; banner 17–20 mm. Legumes plumply oblong, straight or slightly incurved 17–31 × 5–12 mm, semibilocular, septum 2–4 mm wide.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jun.
Habitat: Tuff and gravel to clay washes.
Elevation: 1400–2000 m.

Discussion

Variety shockleyi is known from Lyon and Mineral counties, western Nevada, to Inyo and Mono counties in eastern California.
