Herbs, perennial, to 1.3 m. Stems procumbent, not or weakly branched. Leaves 1.5–4.5(–5) cm; petiole 2–6 mm; extrafloral nectary 0 or 1, proximally on petiole, shortly stipitate; leaflets 2–5 pairs, blades oblong-oblanceolate or semi-obovate, 10–24 × 3.5–9(–9.5) mm. Racemes 1 or 2(3–6)-flowered, axillary. Pedicels (20–)25–50 mm; bracteoles distal to mid pedicel. Flowers: calyx greenish yellow or reddish, sepal venation reticulate; corolla yellow, early fading pinkish reddish, petals to 3.5–6.5(–7) mm; stamens 5, staminodes 0–3; anthers yellow or reddish, 3.2–4.5 mm; ovary gray-hairy. Legumes straight or slightly curved, linear, (17–)23–47 × 3–4 mm. Seeds 2–3 mm. 2n = 16.
Phenology: Flowering summer.
Habitat: Savannas, dunes, waste places, roadsides.
Elevation: 0–100 m.

Discussion
Cassia emarginata Miller is a later homonym that pertains here.
In the flora area, var. pilosa is known from Highland, Martin, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie counties.
