Flowers: petals pinkish lavender shading to white proximally with red spot near middle, 20–40 mm; stigma exserted beyond anthers. 2n = 28.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jun.
Habitat: Woodlands, forest openings.
Elevation: 0–500 m.

Discussion

Subspecies sonomensis is restricted to the North Coast Ranges of California in Colusa, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, and Sonoma counties, and of southern Oregon in Douglas and Josephine counties.
