Stems erect to ascending, 4–8(–10) dm. Principal leaves 1.5–4 cm; leaflets mostly 5. Spike 7–9 mm diam., axis 0.7–2 cm. Calyces 2.9–3.5 mm; tube 2.1–3.5 mm, lobes 0.6–1.1 mm. Petals white. Stamens 6–9.5 mm. 2n = 14.


Phenology: Flowering summer–fall.
Habitat: Relatively dry areas, open oak or pine woods, roadsides.
Elevation: 0–150 m.

Discussion

In Florida, var. albida is known from the northern peninsula south to Polk County and westward to the central panhandle.
