Stems diffusely spreading to procumbent, 3–7 dm. Principal leaves 2–3.5 cm; leaflets mostly 7. Spike 7–8 mm diam., axis 0.5–1.5 cm. Calyces 2.7–3.3 mm; tube 2–2.5 mm, lobes 0.6–0.9(–1.1) mm. Petals white. Stamens 5–6 mm. 2n = 14.


Phenology: Flowering late summer–fall.
Habitat: Grassy areas, pine woods.
Elevation: 0–70 m.

Discussion

In Florida, var. gracilis is known from Jefferson County, plus the central and western panhandle regions.
