Stems finely glandular-tuberculate proximal to spikes. Leaflets 3, blades involute, linear. Involucres 6–9 mm wide. Epistemonous petals (including claw) 4.8–6.8 mm. 2n = 14.


Phenology: Flowering fall–early winter.
Habitat: Sandy pine or oak woods.
Elevation: 0–150 m.

Discussion

Variety trifoliata occurs primarily in the Gulf coastal plain.
