Dalea urceolata var. urceolata

Annual herbs, erect, glabrous proximal to inflorescences. Stems 0.5–3 dm, sparsely gland-dotted distally. Principal leaves 1.5–7 cm; leaflets (7–)11–29, blades oblong-oblanceolate, 2.5–9.5 mm. Peduncles 0.5–7.5(–12) cm. Inflorescences spikes, relatively densely flowered, not obviously involucrate, 9–10.5 mm diam.; axis usually not visible, 0.8–4(–5) cm; bracts deciduous by anthesis, 2–5(–6) mm. Calyces asymmetric, deeply recessed opposite banner, 3.5–6 mm, glabrous, except lobes; tube (2.4–)2.6–3.4(–4.5) mm, with 3–7 large glands between ribs, lobes triangular to triangular-acuminate. Corollas pale blue to white; not conventionally papilionaceous; banner 3.8–5.5 mm, blade ovate-elliptic to subcordate, 2.2–2.8 × 1.4–2.2 mm; epistemonous petals 2, attached near middle of stamen tube, blades 1.4–2.2(–2.6) × 0.5–0.9 mm. Stamens 7–10, 4.2–6 mm, filaments distinct to 0.8–1.2 mm, anthers 0.3 mm. Legumes 2.5 mm, pilosulous distally and dotted with small glands. Seeds 1.5 mm.


Phenology: Flowering late summer–fall.
Habitat: Grassy areas, open conifer woodlands.
Elevation: 2000–2600 m.

In the flora area, var. urceolata is restricted to a small region of east-central Arizona and adjacent New Mexico.
