Stems erect, 5–8(–9) dm, sparsely pubescent. Leaflet blades 10–15 mm, surfaces sparsely pubescent. 2n = 14.


Phenology: Flowering spring–early sum­mer.
Habitat: Sandy, open woods.
Elevation: 50–150 m.

Discussion

While both varieties occur in Texas, the ranges do not overlap. Over 100 km separate the westernmost occurrence of var. grisea in Falls and Milam counties from the easternmost occurrence of var. villosa in Eastland County.
