Subshrubs, 2–4 dm, appressed-silvery. Leaves clustered near base, appressed-silvery; petiole 3–8 cm. Inflorescence bracts 7–9 mm. Racemes 4–14 cm. Flowers 10–15 mm.


Phenology: Flowering Mar–Jun.
Habitat: Cliffs, openings in forests.
Elevation: 0–2000 m.

Discussion

Variety collinus is known from the northern part of the Sierra Nevada Foothills and extends into adjacent southern Oregon and the North and South Coast ranges of California.

Variety collinus is one of the host plants for the endangered Mission Blue butterfly.
