Leaves: petiole 30–210 mm, usually 1/2 as long as or equal to subtended peduncle; leaflet blades oblanceolate to rhombic. Peduncles 2–14 cm, equal to or more than 1/2 as long as subtending petiole, hirsute-villous. Seed red-brown.

Phenology: Flowering spring–early summer.
Habitat: Dry, sandy soils, open woodlands, grasslands.
Elevation: 0–400 m.

Discussion

Variety subulatum is found in Miller and Nevada counties in Arkansas, Marshall County in Oklahoma, and in Texas in Gulf and blackland prairies vegetation and post-oak savanna woodlands, as well a few collec­tions from Piney Woods in Hardin County.
