Shrubs glabrous, appressed-pubescent, or sericeous. Leaflet blades obovate, 3–7 mm wide.


Phenology: Flowering Mar–Aug.
Habitat: Rocky areas, mountain slopes, chapar­ral, oak woodlands.
Elevation: 60–1700 m.

Discussion

Variety montana is known from the North Coast Ranges southward to the San Gabriel Mountains, the northern Sierra Nevada foothills, and the northern Channel Islands.
