Leaves 0.7–1.5 cm; leaflets 7–13, blades obovate to sub-orbiculate, 1–3 mm. Racemes relatively dense; rachis 0.3–1.2(–1.8) cm; bracts lanceolate, 1.6–2.5 mm, margins entire, gland-spurred. Calyces pilosu­lous throughout or tube glabrous, lobes 1.8–2.5 mm. 2n = 10.

Phenology: Flowering spring–early summer (fall).
Habitat: Sandy or gravelly slopes and flats, dunes.
Elevation: 800–2300 m.

Discussion

In California, var. polydenius is known from the southeastern part of the state, east of the Sierra Nevada and in the Mojave and Sonoran desert regions.
