Herbs 15–37 cm; rhizomatous; roots usually not thickened, if so, then crown of rhizomes above thickened portion. Inflo­rescences 10–20-flowered, hemi­spheric, obconic, or subglobose, 2–3 cm diam. Pedicels strongly reflexed in fruit, stout, to 1 mm. Flowers 13–15 mm; calyx sparsely pilose or curly-pilose at sinuses, often glabrous proximally; corolla white, cream, or vio­let, banner apex acute or acuminate. 2n = 24, 48.


Phenology: Flowering May–Jul.
Habitat: Moist meadows.
Elevation: 1000–3600 m.
